On 7th April 1739 Dick Turpin rode through the streets of York in an open cart to face his death. Hear his story as he vividly recounts tales of his legendary adventures before he throws himself from the gallows to meet his death.
So what exactly did Dick Turpin do to deserve such a reputation and an immortal existence in folklore? After humble beginnings, Richard Turpin joined the Gregory gang and entered a world of criminality. He became revered in London for his daring raids before withdrawing to Yorkshire to escape the attention of the law. Now at The York Dungeon you can discover Dick Turpin's full story; how he terrorized Londoners, shot a pursuer dead and eventually was caught and hanged in York.
